Earlier this month, the Matic team travelled to Canada to support ETHWaterloo – ETHGlobal’s premier event of 2019. The event saw blockchain industry leaders join 500+ hackers from around the world to share knowledge and collaborate together on decentralized applications using Ethereum.
In order to support the growth of the Ethereum ecosystem, not only did our CEO, Jaynti Kanani, deliver a tech talk on ‘Making L2 usable’ & host a workshop on ‘Building applications using fast Plasma asset swaps on Matic’, but we also provided a range of bounties to encourage the ETHWaterloo hackers to try their hand at building on Matic Network.
Encouraging the BUIDLers of our decentralized future
Matic Network understands the importance of developer engagement in facilitating the decentralized movement – mass blockchain user adoption cannot be achieved without the participation of BUIDLers. We therefore provided a range of interesting bounty challenges for the ETHWaterloo hackers to inspire them to build innovative hacks.
These included:
– Demonstrate Micropayments
– Build a Decentralized Exchange on Matic
– Build an NFT Marketplace
– Incentivized Torrent Client
– Open Track (unique ideas)

ETHWaterloo Matic Bounty Winners
It was an honor to see so many budding developers BUIDLing their hacks on Matic Network. The high level of skill on display was impressive to say the least and the competition for Matic’s bounty prizes was fierce.
Nevertheless, there were a couple of particularly outstanding submissions whose creators won the Matic Network bounty prizes for their superb efforts. Our CEO, Jaynti Kanani, had the honor of announcing the winners on the ETHWaterloo stage.

Woo-Matic-Torrent
Creators: He Huang, Ting Huang, Zoe Wu
Prize: $1500
Woo-Matic-Torrent is an incentivised torrent which enables seeders to receive MATIC tokens based on the data they seed. The team utilized Matic Network to enable faster payments, thereby increasing transaction speeds to lightning-fast levels and vastly improving UX.
Essentially, the process requires only two peers; for each byte transfer to happen, the leecher (person downloading the file) transfers a small amount to seeder’s (person serving the file) account and the seeder in return allows the transfer of the byte from their storage

Ethereum Listener
Creator: Ryan Lee
Prize: $500
Ethereum Listener is a real-time Ethereum transaction visualizer, which utilizes Matic Dagger APIs. This innovation allows users to see and hear new transactions as they propagate through the Ethereum network.

Closing Thoughts
The Matic team thoroughly enjoys supporting such collaborative events to help cultivate the future of Ethereum development. The scope of innovative ideas emanating from the global Ethereum developer community never ceases to amaze us.
The future of blockchain development is bright indeed, and we are incredibly proud to be assisting Ethereum in spearheading the decentralized movement. With an exponential increase in adoption and developer interest, there has never been a better time to be a part of the Ethereum community.
Developers, let’s keep #BUIDLing!
